ITANAGAR, May 31: A team of Dibang Valley district administration trekked to Mipi circle bordering China. The team led by DC Abu Tayeng inspected various projects under Border Area Developmental Project, during the two days visit.
The DC inspected the wire rope suspension bridge between Mipi and Ebali village and urged the executing department to speed up their work to complete it within time frame. Tayeng is the first deputy commissioner of the district, who has visited the remote villages.
He also inspected the Chu Nallah Mini Hydel Project which is being executing by Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency.
The DC along with other officers set out for the despite inclement weather and managed to visit various remote villages including Byanli along the international border.
While interacting with the villagers, Tayeng took note of their grievances and assured to extend all possible help from the district administration.
The team also organised a medical camp cum immunization programme at Basan village under the guidance of District Reproductive Child Health Officer Dr. T Yomcha who was also part of the entourage.

Itanagar, May 31: The members of Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) have expressed deep shock over sudden demise of Bhim Kumari Rai, mother of Gopal Rai presently working as transmission executive in All India Radio, Itanagar.
Bhim Kumari, who was an employee in BSNL, Tezu and mother of four children, died last night at Tezu after a brief illness.
APC and APUWJ conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
English speaking course
ITANAGAR, May 31: The 10 days free English speaking course organized by Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) concluded at Nahalagun today. Around 200 youths were enrolled for the course.
Sunita Diwakar from Pune, Maharastra conducted the course and imparted knowledge to the learners on how to learn English with correct and proper use of grammar and fluency in speaking with correct pronunciation.
Emin Rumi, General Secretary Kargu Gamgi, Naharlagun, who was present in the concluding day programme, stressed on physical, mental and practical concentration by the learners while learning English. He advised them to practice with the help of English speaking course books to improve fluency in speaking besides talking to friends.
PPWC not ready to relent yet
ITANAGAR, May 31: Reacting to the press statement of Executive Engineer, Pasighat Electrical Division, Pasighat, the Pasighat Peoples’ Welfare committee (PPWC) Chairman Okom Yosung today termed the claims of EE, Pasighat Electrical Division as false information and baseless.
He said that the EE’s claim of restoration of power supply is baseless as the Pasighat people had to face the wrath of heat waves due to power crisis from 2 am to 9 pm yesterday causing intolerable hardship.
He also informed that PPWC had visited the 132kv tower line site and noticed that the pole erection works of Aalo division and Rumgong division connecting Pasighat Electrical Division are still not completed.
PPWC welcomed the EE’s proposal on supply of power from Rina Hydel Project but said that it will not relent till normal power supply is restored. The second phase of agitation is slated for June 7.
The PPWC does not blame Pasighat Electrical Division alone but all the components of the Department of Power responsible for interrupted power supply in Pasighat, he added.
ATA defers Pen Down strike
ITANAGAR, May 31: Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA) has temporarily deferred its proposed indefinite ‘Pen Down’ strike for 45 days following constitution of a high level committee by the state government to examine its demand for rectification of pay anomalies of assistant teachers and others and in the view of admission process of the students.
However, in case of the failure of the government to fulfill its demand, the ATA will launch its movement against the government, according to an ATA release. ATA had called pen down strike from June one demanding immediate rectification of pay anomalies of assistant teachers and others.

Tuki invites Bangladesh to invest in Arunachal
DHAKA, May 31: Arunachal Pradesh, with huge untapped hydro power potentials, has invited Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest there to generate power, the state's chief minister Nabam Tuki said on Thursday.
"We have an estimated hydro power potential of more than 57,000 megawatts (MW) which
is almost one third of India's total hydro power potential," Tuki told a three-

Later in the afternoon the chief minister met Bangladesh foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni and pitched for international investments while projecting the unique natural advantages enjoyed by the State in various sectors.
The Chief Minister informed the Bangladesh Minister about a sizeable Buddhist population and religious pilgrimage sites for Buddhist in the state. He shared his plans for creation of Centre for Buddhism tourism in Arunachal Pradesh in near future which would open the tourism gate for the Buddhist population in South East Asian Countries.
During the course of discussion, a joint venture in Hydropower between Arunachal Pradesh and Bangladesh was agreed upon. The Foreign Minister also desired to purchase power from Arunachal Pradesh and suggested for establishment of a Central Power Grid.
She also pitched for increasing the bilateral trade and offered to export cosmetics, garments, textiles etc. which are produced in very cheaper rates to Arunachal Pradesh and other North Eastern states.

Bharat bandh affects normal life in Arunachal
ITANAGAR, May 31: The dawn-
All business establishments, educational institutions, central government offices and banking institutions remained closed while attendances in state government offices remained thin. Streets of Itanagar wore a deserted look with most of the commercial and public vehicles remaining off the road.
The BJP, however, exempted the students who were appearing in the examinations being conducted today.
The bandh remained peaceful with no reports of breach of law and order in any part of the state, police said.
A good number of BJP workers were arrested by the state police at Itanagar and Naharlagun. They were released later in the evening. The bandh was observed in many districts of the state, the BJP added.
Coming down heavily on UPA Govt at the Centre for spiraling prices of essential commodities, the state BJP said, massive participation in Bharat bandh in the state exposed the resentment of people against petrol price hike. The party demanded immediate roll back.
A passenger vehicle on its way to Itanagar from Seppa was damaged by bandh supporters in Balipara, Sonitpur district, Assam early in the morning.
The bandh passed off peacefully at Pasighat. There was no any report of untoward incident during the bandh, reports DIPRO. All state Govt. offices and institutions were functioning normally. However, business establishments, banks and post office remained closed and long distance buses and other means of transportation remained off the road, the report added.

Three dead as govt employees go fishing

ITANAGAR May 31: In a tragic incident, three employees of Urban Development department,
drowned today at Tirap River, 14 kilometers off Jairampur township. According to
Jairampur police, the body of Sangey Lungten, a forty-
Lungten hailed from Tawang while Pradhan and Dutta are from Jagun and Jorhat in Assam.
They all were attached to the UD department, stationed at Jairampur.
The incident occured around 11.40 am when seven employees of the department were on a fishing spree, the source said.
Sources informed this daily that three were in the middle of the river, when they noticed seepage in the country boat that they were using to fish, prompting them to jump into the river for safety. However, they could not battle the strong current.
According to a report, the three drivers were rowing the wooden boat in the middle of the river, when the incident happened.
Sources say that villagers had warned the officers of the department about the danger of fishing in the river which was ignored. The team included four officers, three drivers and a minor. The rest of the team were on the riverside and witnessed the tragedy unfolding right in front of their eyes. They were unable to help because of the strong current.

The plague that created havoc in Western India during 1994 had nothing to do with unsanitary means of disposal of human excreta; rather it was the result of lack of proper disposal of solid waste. We get sick with Cholera, Polio typhoid and Jaundice (Hepatitis A), when the germs in the faces of an infected person get into our mouth. These can be checked through preservation of drinking water sources and safe disposal of human excreta in toilets. So, there is a need to change the mindset of people in order to bring about a change in the sanitation situation.
Thus, mere construction of latrine is not only the aim of a Total Sanitation Programme.
Total Sanitation Campaign programme has been recognized as a package approach with seven components viz., Collection, storage and use of drinking water, Disposal of liquid waste, Safe disposal of human excreta (including child excreta), Disposal of solid waste, Home sanitation and food hygiene, Personal hygiene (including washing hands) and Environmental hygiene.
The Total Sanitation Campaign Programme is a National Flagship Programme under Ministry of Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation aiming to improve the general quality of life of rural mass. The sole objectives of this progamme is to give awareness to the people about the diseases caused by consumption of unsafe drinking water and unsanitary situation, thereby minimize the human loss and expenses on medication.
The programme also grants an incentive called” Nirmal Gram Puraskar (NGP)” with cash prize ranging from Rs 50,000 to 5 lakh to those Gram Panchayats which maintain Open Defecation Free status.
District Water and Sanitation Committee, Lower Dibang Valley District under Deputy Commissioner Garima Gupta and Member Secretary, Er S.Pertin conducted massive campaign in the district covering all panchayat blocks. The NGO Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society had collaborated the campaign. Massive response is also being received from the PRI leaders and villagers.

They may tell that they will seek admission for you in a low cost and reputed colleges but fact is that nobody does good for others unless they get some benefit out of you. Roads in Arunachal Pradesh are in very poor condition. Road maintenances have not kept pace with growth in vehicular population. Consequently there are accidents, serious injuries and deaths all round.
It is an open secret that people get driving licenses without proper driving knowledge
or traffic rules. Road safety measures, lane-
Overloading of passengers and goods is very common, which is one of the main factors for accidents and deaths on the road. There is no cooperation and coordination between various agencies and authorities concerned for control and regulation of road traffic, construction and maintenance of roads.
Most of the drivers belong to poor middle class or lower sectors of the society. They are engaged in driving trucks, buses, three wheelers, tempos etc. and are often overworked. To overcome their fatigue they often take intoxicants and then drive and cause accidents and errors in judgment.
The elite and rich drivers often use their mobile phone while being on the move in their cars. This results in accidents and crashes. Driving and using the mobile phone simultaneously may cause loss of control of the vehicle or concentration needed in safe and sane driving.
Above all, there should be proper awareness among the masses about road safety, observation of traffic rules and the proper use of the roads and national highways.

Dear Editor,
Electricity, L.P.G, Petrol, Drinking Water, Road conditions, Cellular Service are our basic and daily needs. But the question is; are we getting those basic requirements?
Unlike other parts of the Nation we just dream about modern facilities. Shortage of LPG forced us to use electric cooker, now we face shortage of electricity and we don't have either of them. The last option left to us is firewood.
Let’s not talk about 2G or what an idea Sirji, 3G. If we are able to make a call it becomes hot news of the day.
At the end of the day we the common people realise that its worthless to blame any political party for being corrupt rather we learn to judge which party is more corrupt.

Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention of masses and concerned authorities about the road connecting Chimpu area and Itanagar.
Every year the road witness severe land slide due to heavy rain affecting transportation, automatically resulting in great disturbance to the common masses. These landslides even affect the economy of the state directly since it is a national highway through which essential items are transported. So it is better that necessary initiatives are taken by the concerned authorities before it’s too late.

This is a letter from a doctor to a doctor in reply to the subject "Open letter to the Chief Minister".
Your points are valid regarding the irregular regularisation of the over 70 NRHM contractual doctors, both Allopathic and AYUSH doctors two months back. But my simple question to you is that why did you keep mum over the issue for last two months?
Why now, when a very healthy trend and initiative has been taken to appoint doctors through written and viva test purely on the basis of their merit through APPSC. Please bear with us and let us all fight it out in the examination hall and set a healthy trend for the younger generations. Hoping for the best.
